If nothing else, 2020 has shown how adaptable us humans have been in taking to technology to keep life as close to normal as possible.  For some it has enabled work to continue and, for many, online shopping has been a lifeline.  Keeping fit, cultural exploration and entertainment have all been possible through the wonder of the internet.  But, some activities translate to the virtual world better than others.

So, how well do decluttering & organising services measure up through a screen? 

That will depend on your goals and circumstances but, in general, they can be very helpful and there are actually some advantages to virtual decluttering & organising, over in-person services!

There are 3 key requirements to success with a virtual decluttering & organising session:

1.  Do you have a stable internet connection?
2.  Do you have a decent sized screen which is also easy to safely manoeuver? For me, decluttering & organising is a very visual activity – some Professional Declutterers & Organisers are happy to provide these services over the phone, but the Trimm Living version needs a screen - a Tablet or laptop is ideal - smartphones, are not so good… and I say this because I want you to have the best experience!
3. Are you physically able to lift, move, and process the items in your space by yourself? … or do you have someone to hand that can help you with that?

What is the scope of a Virtual Declutter & Organise session?

A virtual declutter & organise session can really tackle any area of the home that is in need of breathing space.  I would recommend starting with the place that would create the greatest positive impact on your lifestyle. 

Good places to focus on at the beginning are boxes of paperwork or photographs, the kitchen, or your wardrobe.  However, if you are yearning for a restful bedroom, or need to get toys under control, that is not a problem.

Remember, the service is tailored to you.  The start of our first session very much focuses on what you want to achieve, and we develop a manageable plan to follow from there.

What are the differences between a Virtual and an In-person Declutter & Organise session?

With an in-person service you have our physical presence and support, another pair of hands can be helpful in tackling many projects. Also, because we can see the whole space and are not limited to the narrow field allowed by the camera, it is easier to quickly assess and prioritise the work that needs to be done.

However, although establishing a plan of action may take a little longer, communication is the secret to both services, and video calls are perfect vehicles for getting the information we need, to get down to business in an efficient way.

Pro’s of a Virtual Declutter & Organise Service:

Since we are not physically in your home, it allows flexibility in terms of how we run the sessions to best suit your needs!

For some projects, particularly when we start, it might be helpful to have us on screen throughout but, as we progress and your confidence grows, the session could be split into 2 or 3 segments allowing you time in between to sort your things and complete some of the work.  A 3-hour virtual block split over up to 3 days could give you 2 or 3 virtual sessions for less than the cost of one of our in-person sessions which is a minimum of 3 hours. 

The Virtual De-clutter & Organise service is very budget friendly!

I know most people don’t find the idea of spending a day decluttering as joyful as I do - yet!! ;0) - so being able to split your session can help reduce decision fatigue compared to 3-6 hours on the trot, decluttering in-person!

A bonus of the “hands-on” nature of the Virtual De-clutter & Organise process for the client, is that combined with our expert guidance, motivation and support, it results in a very effective transfer of skills enabling you to keep the space organised going forward.

The Virtual Declutter & Organise service is much less intrusive - great if you have concerns about having visitors in your space or don’t like the idea of having a stranger in your home, but still want to have the support of a pro.   For large projects it is a great way to test if we are a good match!

During Covid - and heading through winter when we will be spending even more time at home - it is a great way to make your home a comfortable place to be – and its contamination risk free! 

Lastly – the Virtual service has no boundaries!  It is perfect if you live out of reach of our in person service, but would still like to have our input.
